Artificial Intelligence is transforming the way we live, work, and interact with technology. As AI increasingly moves beyond digital systems into robotics and autonomous technologies, new opportunities and responsibilities emerge. To explore these developments, researchers from across the UNINOVIS European University Alliance will come together at The Hague University of Applied Sciences for the UNINOVIS Research Workshop on AI and Robotics on 2–3 June 2026.

The workshop is designed to strengthen research collaboration across the alliance and create new opportunities for joint participation in future European research programmes. Bringing together experts in artificial intelligence, robotics, ethics, law, and digital governance, the event will focus on developing interdisciplinary research agendas that address some of Europe’s most pressing technological and societal challenges.

Connecting Responsible AI and Robotics

A central theme of the workshop is the intersection between Responsible AI and AI-enabled robotics. As autonomous systems become increasingly integrated into everyday life, questions surrounding transparency, governance, sustainability, ethics, regulation, and human-centred design become more important than ever.

Participants will explore how Europe can lead the development of trustworthy autonomous systems that not only drive innovation but also reflect European values of inclusiveness, accountability, and societal benefit.

Exploring Key Research Themes

Throughout the workshop, researchers will exchange ideas and identify opportunities for future collaboration across a wide range of topics, including AI and robotics applications in manufacturing, human-robot collaboration, autonomous navigation systems, smart sensor technologies, object recognition and tracking, digital twins, AI and democracy, migration forecasting, and the ethical implications of autonomous systems.

From Ideas to European Research Proposals

The workshop is expected to bring together approximately 20–30 researchers, including senior academics, early-career researchers, and PhD candidates from across the UNINOVIS partner institutions.

Over the course of one and a half days, participants will take part in keynote sessions, research pitches, thematic discussions, and collaborative proposal-development workshops. Particular attention will be given to identifying opportunities within upcoming Horizon Europe calls and building strong international research consortia.

Strengthening the UNINOVIS Research Community

Beyond the immediate research outcomes, the workshop represents another important step in strengthening the UNINOVIS research ecosystem. By connecting expertise from different disciplines and institutions, the alliance continues to build a collaborative environment where innovation, education, and research reinforce one another.

The event is expected to result in the formation of new thematic research clusters, draft concepts for future Horizon Europe projects, and a shared roadmap for continued cooperation in 2026 and beyond.

Through initiatives such as this workshop, UNINOVIS continues to advance its mission of applying data science and digital innovation to create meaningful societal impact across Europe.
